- Kufuor urges Speaker Bagbin to prioritize stability and restore order in the House
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin to step up and demonstrate strong leadership amid the ongoing stand-off over majority seating arrangements.
Kufuor expressed his disappointment over the deadlock, calling it an “embarrassing” situation that could damage Bagbin’s otherwise stellar political reputation.
The conflict arose after the Supreme Court suspended Bagbin’s ruling, which declared four parliamentary seats vacant, a decision contested by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but supported by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC now claims the majority in Parliament, leading to tension and a standoff, with NPP members refusing to enter the chamber to avoid clashes.
In an interview, Kufuor urged Bagbin to focus on resolving the crisis and ensuring stability in the House.
He cautioned that if the situation continues, it could overshadow Bagbin’s legacy and harm his standing in Ghana’s political history.
