O’Sullivan Calls for Others to Fill McCabe Void for Ireland
Ireland Relying on Other Leaders as O'Sullivan Takes Captain's Armband

- Denise O'Sullivan has emphasized the need for other players to step up

Republic of Ireland midfielder Denise O’Sullivan has emphasized the need for other players to step up in the upcoming Nations League match against Greece due to the suspension of captain Katie McCabe.
McCabe, who plays for Arsenal, received a yellow card in the previous 4-0 victory over Greece, ruling her out of the home fixture in Tallaght.
O’Sullivan, who is expected to captain the team in McCabe’s absence, acknowledged the significance of missing their influential leader, who provided two assists in the away game despite a calf issue. However, she told RTE Sport, “Katie is a top, top player she is our captain, and you always want your captain around, but I think it is important for other players to step up now.”
She views McCabe’s absence as an “opportunity for players to step in and represent their country and do their job,” adding, “Of course, we’ll miss Katie, but we have a lot of other leaders in the team that can come in and make a difference, so I see it as a positive as well and we look forward to it.”
Shelbourne midfielder Alex Kavanagh has been called into the squad as McCabe’s replacement, marking a potential return to international duty for Kavanagh, whose only previous cap was in a friendly against Wales nine years ago.
