The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially unveiled its leadership structure for the 9th Parliament, solidifying its approach to handling legislative affairs in the upcoming session.

The newly appointed leadership includes:

  • Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader
  • Patricia Apiagyei as Deputy Minority Leader
  • Frank Annoh-Dompreh as Chief Whip
  • Habib Iddrisu as First Deputy Minority Whip
  • Davies Opoku as Second Deputy Minority Whip

Following the announcements, the NPP will meet with its Members of Parliament-elect to discuss their roles ahead of the official opening of the 9th Parliament.

This move underscores the NPP’s resolve to maintain unity and effectively manage parliamentary operations despite the challenges posed by a notable electoral setback.

After losing more than 50 seats in the 2024 general elections, the party now holds only 81 seats, a significant drop from the 137 it previously held.

In contrast, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) commands a dominant position with over 180 seats, making them the majority in the 9th Parliament.

As the NPP adjusts to the altered political landscape, its newly appointed leadership will be essential in navigating opposition tactics and shaping legislative priorities.
