The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of recruiting and training thugs to disrupt the upcoming December elections.

During a press conference on November 20, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, the NPP’s National Organiser, alleged that the NDC has been secretly training these individuals under the guise of private security courses in various communities, including Obuasi East.

He claimed the goal is to create disturbances, particularly in the Ashanti region, which is a key stronghold of the NPP.

Additionally, Nana B accused the NDC of collaborating with illegal miners to cause chaos during the elections.

He claimed that a secret meeting was held with pro-NDC small-scale miners in Obuasi to recruit members into the NDC’s Eagle Force vigilante group, which would allegedly be deployed to NPP polling stations with the intent of causing violence on election day.

Nana B also suggested that the NDC has been arming these thugs and using state ambulances to transport weapons to various communities.

He added that intelligence gathered by the NPP indicates that the NDC may attempt to instigate fear through kidnapping and armed robbery, especially in NPP strongholds.

The NPP’s press conference was a response to the NDC’s own media claims, which included accusations that the government was planning to rig the elections in the Ashanti region with the help of a military officer.

Despite these allegations, Nana B asserted that the NPP would not allow the NDC to succeed in these alleged plots, emphasizing that “these deceitful strategies will not work under our watch.”
