Nana Ntow Yirenkyi, the Twafohene of Denkyira Kyekyewere, has strongly pledged that the traditional leadership will fiercely oppose any efforts to oust c as the Acting Commissioner of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

In an interview, Nana Yirenkyi expressed unwavering support for Mr. Sarpong, asserting that traditional authorities will not tolerate any form of intimidation.

He highlighted that Mr. Sarpong has strong backing within the NDC in the Central region, including from key figures like President Mahama. Nana Yirenkyi further warned that should the disturbances continue, they would mobilize in defense of Sarpong’s appointment.

His remarks followed a protest at the GRA headquarters, led by a group of youth, reportedly associated with the NDC, who voiced opposition to Sarpong’s appointment.

Despite Mr. Sarpong’s extensive credentials, including his tenure as a Senior Partner at KPMG, his political ties have raised concerns among certain NDC members.

Nana Yirenkyi criticized the actions of the protesting youth, calling for unity within the NDC and emphasizing that not all NDC supporters are qualified for prominent positions.

Drawing on his own experience as a former NDC Communications Officer, he underscored the importance of merit in key appointments, pointing out that roles such as the GRA Commissioner require skilled technocrats, not just political loyalty.

He urged the youth to allow President Mahama to govern without unnecessary disruptions.
