The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a notice of appeal in response to an Accra High Court’s ruling, which granted a mandamus application from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This order directs the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation and declaration of parliamentary results in four contested constituencies.
Following the court’s decision on January 4, 2025, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, the NDC’s lead counsel, remarked that the party had anticipated the ruling.
“We came prepared with our notices of appeal,” he said, confirming that they filed the appeal immediately after the judgment was delivered. Additionally, Tameklo noted that they had also submitted a stay application.
The court’s ruling also instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide security to the EC to ensure the process is completed smoothly. The affected constituencies include Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South.
The NPP had argued that the electoral processes in these areas had not been concluded, and therefore, no results could be declared. The court sided with the NPP, granting the mandamus application to ensure that all collation processes are finalized before any declarations are made.
