The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reassured the public about its neutral stance in the upcoming December 7 elections, addressing concerns over possible military involvement at polling stations.

GAF emphasized that soldiers will not be stationed at voting locations, and their role will be strictly supportive, only stepping in at the request of the Ghana Police Service.

Brigadier General Kweku Dankwa Hagan, Head of Operations, Training, and Peacekeeping at GAF, clarified during a meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Election Security Taskforce that the military’s primary mission is to support the police when needed, not to oversee elections.

He stressed that the elections are managed by the Ghana Police Service and other security services under the Ministry of Interior.

Military personnel will not be visible at over 40,000 polling stations, except in cases where the police request their assistance, particularly at more than 1,000 identified flashpoints and potential trouble zones.

This statement aims to reassure citizens and build public confidence in the security measures being put in place for the election.
