West Ham United forward Michail Antonio has arrived in Ghana to visit the Samba Football Academy.
The 34-year-old landed at Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, November 10, ahead of his brief visit.
Upon his arrival, Antonio was welcomed by the Ghanaian Hammers, a West Ham supporter group in the country.
He plans to travel to Bompata in Kumasi to check on the football academy project he is involved with.
“I’ve come here to do my work. We’ve started an academy here in Kumasi, Bompata,” he stated. “We know there’s immense talent here; just look at Mo [Kudus], who is currently at West Ham.”
Antonio emphasized his goal of providing local players the chance to reach the Premier League. “We want to give the boys here the opportunity to break through,” he said.
He also noted that the wealth of talent in Ghana motivated him to invest in the country. “There’s a great pool of talent here, and I want to help give the motherland the chance to see its players succeed globally,” he added.
Antonio highlighted the success of the academy, sharing that since its inception, three players have already been signed by English clubs, including Chelsea.
He will spend the next few days in Ghana before heading to Jamaica for the international break.
