Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced that football fans will have the unique opportunity to experience the game from Lionel Messi’s perspective.
For the first time, the Argentinian forward will wear a chest-mounted camera during all Inter Miami games in the MLS Cup 2024.
The “Player Spotlight” stream, also known as “Messi-cam,” will go live five minutes before the kickoff time for every Inter Miami game. Fans can watch the live stream on the TikTok channels of both MLS and Inter Miami.
This innovative approach will mark the first time a football game is broadcast live on social media in its entirety with a single player in focus.
Previously, MLS had experimented with a similar setup during a US Open Cup game in 2023, focusing on Messi’s movements on the pitch.
With the Messi-cam, fans will get a personal perspective of the world champion’s runs, moves, assists, goals, and celebrations as he strives to lead Inter Miami to their first MLS Cup title.
Messi joined Inter Miami in June 2023 after an acrimonious departure from Paris Saint-Germain. In his 16 months with the US club, he has already won a Leagues Cup title and the MLS Supporters’ Shield.
Inter Miami will face an undecided wildcard qualifier in the first of their best-of-three games for the MLS Cup 2024. Fans can look forward to watching Messi’s every move up close as he competes for the championship.
