President John Dramani Mahama has trimmed the number of government ministries from 30 to 23, a move aimed at enhancing public service delivery and cutting operational costs.
Unveiled through an Executive Instrument on January 9, 2025, this decision fulfills a key campaign promise to streamline government for greater accountability and efficiency. The reduction aligns with Mahama’s broader vision to restructure governance, merge overlapping functions, and create a leaner, results-driven public sector.
By exercising powers under the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D.C.L. 327), the President has initiated mergers among some ministries, signaling a strategic effort to reduce bureaucracy and foster cost-effective governance.
