President John Dramani Mahama has launched a seven-member National Economic Dialogue (NED) Planning Committee as part of his 120-day Social Contract with Ghanaians.
This initiative aims to address pressing economic challenges and pave the way for sustainable development.
The committee, chaired by prominent economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson, has been tasked with organizing a high-level dialogue to foster stakeholder consultation and build consensus on transformative policies. Members include Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Professor John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir.
In a statement issued on January 26, 2025, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, highlighted the NED’s core objectives: communicating the true state of the economy, exploring trade-offs in policy reforms, and building consensus to establish a high-growth, inclusive, and resilient economic framework.
The committee has four weeks to present its report, which will outline strategies for fiscal consolidation, structural reforms, and policy priorities necessary for an economic reset. This initiative marks a critical step toward addressing Ghana’s economic challenges and securing a sustainable future.
