The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has blamed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the decline in Ghana’s oil production, citing alleged mismanagement and lack of transparency.
Speaking to the Western Regional House of Chiefs during his regional tour, Mahama claimed that key oil companies abandoned the country due to demands for personal shares in oil and gas contracts by individuals linked to the NPP administration.
He argued that such practices have eroded investor confidence and hampered oil output.
The former President vowed to restore trust in Ghana’s oil industry under an NDC administration.
He pledged to renegotiate contracts and re-engage investors to revive production and boost the sector’s contribution to national development.
Meanwhile, Awulae Attibrukusu, Omanhene of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, urged Mahama to tackle illegal mining, which continues to harm the environment and deplete natural resources.
