A devastating incident unfolded in Sokoban Wood Village, Kumasi, on Sunday, October 20, when a one-story building collapsed, resulting in one fatality and three rescues.
The collapse occurred in the early morning, involving construction workers on site. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly to an emergency call at 2:45 a.m.
Upon their arrival, they discovered four workers trapped under the debris and immediately initiated a rescue operation.
While three individuals were successfully extricated alive, sadly, one worker was pronounced dead at the scene. The body has since been transferred to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigation.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, focusing on potential violations of safety regulations. The GNFS has called on construction companies and workers to rigorously follow safety measures, highlighting the critical need for such precautions to avert future tragedies.
“This swift response saved three lives, but this heartbreaking event underscores the necessity for strict adherence to safety protocols in construction projects,” stated the GNFS.
