Prominent Ghanaian businessman, philanthropist, and sports administrator Herbert Mensah will be honoured at the National Honours and Awards ceremony on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Mensah, who currently serves as the President of Rugby Africa and is an Executive Board Member of World Rugby, will receive recognition for his exceptional contributions to sports development and philanthropy, both in Ghana and across the African continent.
With over 30 years of experience in business and management, Mensah has played a key role in advancing rugby, football, and corporate social responsibility. He has been instrumental in driving significant change in these sectors through innovative initiatives and leadership.
A graduate of the University of Sussex in the UK, Mensah’s career has spanned various high-profile roles, including reviving the legacy of Kumasi Asante Kotoko as its chairman and leading the distributorships of global brands like Motorola and Nokia across Africa.
As President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Mensah oversaw a period of remarkable growth for the sport in Ghana, further cementing his status as a key figure in the development of African rugby.
Beyond his work in sports, Mensah has been an outspoken advocate for several charitable causes. He founded the May 9th Foundation, which supports victims of the tragic 2001 Accra Sports Stadium disaster, and the Shen Yang & Shen Yuet Children’s Heart Foundation, which provides critical medical care for children in need.
The ceremony, which will be presided over by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, celebrates individuals whose outstanding achievements have significantly contributed to Ghana’s progress and development.
