GRA Stops Gun Smuggling Operation, Seizes Firearms and Ammunition at Tema Port

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division has intercepted a significant shipment of weapons at the Tema Port, uncovering 53 pistols, 65 rounds of live ammunition, 74 magazines, and a PC holster hidden in a 40-foot container at the Golden Jubilee Terminal.
The container, initially declared to contain vehicles and personal effects, had arrived at the port from the United States.
Upon examination by Customs officers on November 15, 2024, the firearms and ammunition were discovered concealed in three suitcases.
The GRA immediately alerted its Intelligence and Investigations Unit, as well as the Preventive Unit, to respond to the find. Following confirmation of the seizure, all items in the container were examined and detained for further scrutiny.
The agent and the consignee’s representative were arrested and taken into custody for questioning, with the suspects transferred to the Marine and Railway Police Station in Tema for further investigation.
This seizure marks a significant success in the GRA’s efforts to prevent illegal arms trafficking and ensure national security.
