Two lives were tragically lost in Konongo, Ashanti Region, when a fuel tanker swerved to avoid a crash, causing a deadly collision with two cars.
The tanker, which had reportedly failed its brakes, veered into oncoming traffic, slamming into a pickup truck and a Hyundai Elantra.
The two victims, passengers in the pickup truck (registered GW 4031-21), were killed instantly. Other passengers in the vehicles suffered varying degrees of injury.
CCTV footage from the scene reveals the tanker’s desperate attempt to steer clear of a larger disaster, but despite its efforts, it crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with the pickup and sending it into the path of the Elantra.
The aftermath of the crash left the vehicles severely damaged.
Police are investigating the cause of the incident, and safety measures are being reinforced in the area as cleanup operations continue.
