Free Kidney Treatment for All: Napo Visits KATH and Guarantees Access to Care for Renal Patients

Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured that no kidney patient will be left behind as the government rolls out free treatment for renal disease.

During his visit to the Renal Department of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on December 2, 2024, Dr. Prempeh pledged the NPP’s commitment to providing accessible, quality healthcare for all renal patients. He lauded NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for spearheading the initiative, citing it as an example of visionary leadership.

The NPP government has introduced a free dialysis treatment program for kidney patients, with accredited hospitals across the country now offering the service under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Hospitals include major teaching hospitals such as Korle Bu, Cape Coast, and Tamale, as well as regional and military hospitals like the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Regional Hospital.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has also allocated 200 million cedis to ensure the smooth rollout of this groundbreaking policy, promising better healthcare access for all kidney patients in Ghana.
