Starting April 28, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will implement a sweeping overhaul of Ghana’s passport system, unveiling five major policy changes designed to boost efficiency, enhance security, and make passports more affordable and accessible for citizens.

Implementing a new electronic tracking (e-tracking) system to monitor application progress

Slashing application fees by 30%, reducing the cost from GHS 500 to GHS 350
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on April 23, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized the government’s focus on maintaining robust security standards while easing the financial burden on applicants.
“These reforms strike a balance between affordability and security, ensuring that our passport system remains both accessible and trustworthy,” he affirmed.
The Ministry anticipates that the changes will not only streamline the application process but also reinforce the credibility of Ghana’s travel documentation on the global stage.
