In a call for vigilance and professionalism ahead of Ghana’s December elections, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who also chairs the Ghana Police Council, emphasized the critical role of the police in facilitating a peaceful, transparent electoral process.
During a ceremony in Accra on October 30, where 430 officers were promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Dr. Bawumia praised the police for their past efforts in maintaining peace during elections. He urged them to remain proactive in the face of current security challenges and increasing political tensions.
“Each election brings its challenges, but we trust in the professionalism of our police force,” he stated. “The exemplary conduct during the recent voter registration and exhibition sets a strong precedent for the upcoming elections.”
Dr. Bawumia reinforced the importance of neutral, fair, and firm policing, urging officers to maintain high standards and set a positive example for the nation. He also noted the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing police training, logistics, and equipment, which are vital for ensuring both electoral security and effective law enforcement.
