In preparation for the December 7 general elections, visually impaired voters in the Ashanti region have received training on the Tactile Jacket voting method.

The primary goal for every voter is to cast their ballot privately and independently. However, this can be particularly challenging for individuals with visual impairments.

The training took place at the Asokore Mampong District Office of the Electoral Commission over the weekend. Participants expressed their appreciation for the initiative, with one attendee, Isaac Obeng, praising the EC for its efforts to ensure their voting privacy.

Obeng explained, “If you want to vote for the third candidate, you simply count down from the top two. So, one, two, three—then you locate the box to the right.”

These training sessions are designed to equip visually impaired voters with essential skills ahead of election day, empowering them to make independent voting choices. The Electoral Commission’s initiative is a significant step toward inclusivity in the electoral process.
