Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that the first phase of the Digital Youth Hub at the University of Ghana is scheduled to be inaugurated in December 2024.

This project, under the GhanaCARES ‘Obaatanpa’ program, aims to empower youth and foster digital skills.

During a site visit, the Vice President emphasized the importance of digitalization for economic growth, highlighting the opportunities created by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

He stressed the need for Ghanaian youth to acquire the necessary digital skills to participate in this new era.

The Digital Youth Hub is part of Ghana’s broader strategy to become a digital hub for Africa.

The Vice President noted that this initiative will not only promote entrepreneurship but also attract global investment, positioning Ghana as a competitive player in the digital economy.

The hub, which has made significant progress in six months of construction, will serve as a central platform for digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and capacity-building.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that Phase 1 is on track for completion by December 2024, with plans to expand the project to other universities in Ghana.

Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam confirmed that the first phase will be followed by a second phase that includes the construction of hostel facilities to accommodate students from across the country.

This will allow for broader participation until similar hubs are established in other regions.

Beyond its primary function as a digital skills center, the hub will also house a conference room with a seating capacity of 2,200, making it a regional hub for conferences and events.

The Finance Minister emphasized that the hub is being modeled after Silicon Valley, aiming to attract high-tech firms and foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government.
