A fresh wave of violence in Bawku has claimed another life, pushing the death toll to 26 since the conflict resurfaced in late October 2024.
Despite a stringent curfew from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., gunmen continue to breach the restrictions, sparking further attacks and heightening tensions.
The escalating unrest has forced the closure of schools and disrupted businesses, as residents fear additional violence.
On November 12, clashes in Bawku’s Daduri suburb led to two deaths, injuries, and the destruction of homes in a gunfight that saw buildings set ablaze.
In response to the crisis, many residents have begun fleeing the area, with military-escorted buses transporting people to the safer town of Bolgatanga.
The violence has reportedly intensified with the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre and a series of ambushes targeting travelers, stoking even more unrest.
