Andy Kerm Calls for Otto Addo’s Dismissal as Black Stars Coach
The Black Stars Need a Proven Leader to Revitalize Their Performance
- Andy Kerm insists that Otto Addo's coaching is insufficient for the Black Stars' needs
- Andy Kerm emphasizes the importance of a robust local league in developing national team talent
- He cites Senegal's Aliou Cisse as a model for perseverance and eventual triumph
Sports journalist, Andy Kerm has firmly stated that Black Stars coach Otto Addo should be let go.
Andy Kerm advocated for a more experienced and assertive Coach to guide the Black Stars.
Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio Morning Show ‘Ghana Se Sen’ with Kwame Tanko on October 18, Andy Kerm reacted to the Black Stars’ disheartening 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Morocco AFCON Qualifiers.
He described Otto Addo as merely an “appendage” and emphasized the need for a strategic overhaul.
“We should establish a plan, strategize, and turn things around,” he advised
He cited the example of Senegal’s coach, Aliou Cisse, who faced setbacks but ultimately led his team to victory in the AFCON and the World Cup.
“Senegal appointed Aliou Cisse as the head coach in 2015, and although Cameroon defeated him in the AFCON quarter-finals, Senegal supported him because they recognized they were beaten by a country that had always triumphed over them. Aliou Cisse faced Algeria in the 2019 AFCON finals and was defeated. He then led Senegal to the next edition of the AFCON in 2022, where they emerged victorious. He also qualified Senegal for the 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals,” he said.
He noted that other countries, like Egypt and Tanzania, have successfully developed their leagues, allowing them to confidently select local players for the national team.
Andy Kerm lamented that Ghana has not qualified for the Olympics in 20 years, expressing concern over the loss of the nation’s footballing pride.
After four matches played, Ghana lies in third place in Group F with two points, Sudan in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with nine points, waiting to play their fourth game.
Prior to this game, Ghana drew 1-1 against Niger, lost to Angola at home by a goal to zero, and drew goalless at home against Sudan.
The Black Stars will travel to face Angola and play the last match against Niger in Ghana.
The chances of the team qualifying have become slim, with a defeat in any of the next two games likely to jeopardize the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
