Ghanaian singer-songwriter Akwaboah has responded to Kwabena Kwabena’s claim of pioneering Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana.
Akwaboah expressed surprise at Kwabena Kwabena’s assertion. Kwabena Kwabena had previously stated, “On the 14th of February 2014, that was the first time I did a Valentine’s concert.”
Akwaboah revealed that he had consistently performed at Kwabena Kwabena’s concerts on February 12th, with Kwabena Kwabena then appearing at Akwaboah’s show on February 14th.
He explained how, in 2024, he was called to perform for Kwabena Kwabena on the 12th, only to later see Kwabena Kwabena announce his own Valentine’s Day concert on the 14th.
Akwaboah clarified that his own “Shades of Love” concert was canceled in 2024 due to two factors: prior commitments to perform outside of Ghana and his search for a larger venue, which he eventually secured at the Grand Arena.
When asked if he was hurt by Kwabena Kwabena’s actions, Akwaboah admitted, “In as much as I was hurt I didn’t have a problem with him because I am not the only one that can do a show on that day.”
He added that his relationship with Kwabena Kwabena remains positive. “It’s been cool I mean, we met at Royal Senchi, we talked about it, I asked whether they’re doing this year and he said yes and I was like okay cool.”
