President Akufo-Addo has congratulated John Dramani Mahama, the President-Elect of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential Election, following the Electoral Commission’s declaration of the results.

Mahama shared this news during his acceptance speech at his campaign office in Cantonments, Accra, revealing that the two leaders had discussed matters concerning the joint transition team.

“I received a congratulatory call from President Akufo-Addo, who graciously extended his best wishes to me. We also discussed the formation of the joint transition team. I assured him of my readiness to collaborate for a smooth transition in the best interest of Ghana,” Mahama said.

Both leaders agreed to inaugurate the joint transition team on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Mahama emphasized that the election results reflected a decisive victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), marking one of the most significant electoral wins in Ghana’s Fourth Republic history. “The people of Ghana have entrusted us with an overwhelming mandate. I am deeply honored and humbled by their support,” he expressed.

Mahama secured 6,382,397 votes, or 56.55% of the total valid votes, while his main competitor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%.
