Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated that, while he holds the position of the opposition leader in Parliament, he is currently not pursuing a strong opposition against the government.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the time for a more vigorous opposition has not yet arrived, offering the government some space to operate.
Reflecting on the challenges his party faced when they were in power, he recalled the intense resistance they encountered from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) minority. “At a point, the NDC put up a posture.
It’s difficult to be in government. Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet. No, no. I’m not opposed to them,” he said, adding that he is giving the current government a moment to settle in.
However, he suggested that while his opposition is currently on hold, it may intensify in the future.
He also praised Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his diplomatic approach in bridging gaps between the Majority and Minority in Parliament, commending his efforts in fostering dialogue.
