An Accra High Court has dismissed a motion filed by the Ghana Police Service, which sought to block an upcoming protest against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

The court’s ruling followed a request by Assistant State Attorney David Bachem, acting on behalf of the Attorney General, to withdraw the motion. As a result, the protest, scheduled for April 28, 2025, can now proceed as planned.

Media personality and protest organizer Okatakyie Afrifa criticized the initial motion to halt the demonstration, calling it a move made in bad faith.

The protest will kick off at Obra Spot near Kwame Nkrumah Circle, journey through the Ring Road, and end at the Liberation Square near the Jubilee House. The event is set to run from 4:00 p.m. on April 28 to 12:00 a.m. on April 29.
