The Ghana Police Service has restored calm in Ejura following a mob attack on the Ejura Police Station in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2025.

The chaos began late Friday, January 10, 2025, when Police arrested a suspect for alleged theft. While in custody, the suspect reportedly fell ill around 2:20 am and was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital. Unfortunately, he died while receiving treatment.

As preparations were being made to transfer the deceased’s body for autopsy, enraged community members attacked the police station, setting parts of it on fire. The mob also stormed the hospital and forcibly took possession of the suspect’s body.

In a swift response, the Police, with the help of local opinion leaders, de-escalated tensions and ensured there were no casualties. The Ghana National Fire Service extinguished the fire, while the military later joined the Police to reinforce security in the area.

Authorities have launched investigations to identify those responsible for the attack, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace and order in the community.
