Actress Martha Ankomah has dismissed Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as Lil Win’s, public apology in relation to the GH₵5 million defamation lawsuit she filed against him in the High Court in Accra.

In a court session on December 13, 2024, Ankomah’s legal team argued that Lil Win’s apology was insufficient, stating that it lacked the necessary elements of a proper retraction and apology.

According to a court report by Murtala Inusah, Ankomah felt the apology failed to properly address the harm caused to her reputation.

The defamation case, filed by Ankomah on February 14, 2024, stems from a viral video in which Lil Win allegedly made defamatory comments about the actress, damaging her standing in the film industry.

In her lawsuit, Ankomah is seeking GH₵5 million in damages, along with a formal apology and retraction that must be as prominently presented as the original defamatory statements.

On December 13, 2024, the High Court heard the case in-camera for nearly three hours, with both parties and their legal teams engaging in talks to find a possible resolution. The court adjourned the case to February 25, 2025, allowing the parties time to finalize the settlement terms.

It is expected that Lil Win may issue a new apology that meets Ankomah’s conditions as part of the settlement. Ankomah’s legal team insists that the resolution must include an apology and retraction that properly address the damage done to her reputation.

Background to the Case

The defamation suit was filed following a viral video in which Lil Win allegedly insulted Martha Ankomah, damaging her professional reputation in the film industry. Ankomah claims the comments were malicious and reckless. In her lawsuit, she is demanding:

  • GH₵5 million in damages for defamation.
  • Compensation for harm caused to her reputation.
  • Aggravated damages for the malicious publication of the defamatory statements.
  • A court order for Lil Win to issue a formal retraction and apology with equal prominence to the original defamatory remarks.

While Lil Win and his legal team have shown interest in settling the matter outside of court, the actress’s legal team insists that the terms of the settlement must meet their requirements for a proper retraction and apology.
