Raphael Kofi Gabson, General Secretary of the National Council of Parent Teacher Associations (NCPTA), has strongly criticized the state of education in Ghana, citing chronic underfunding and a lack of decisive leadership.
Gabson specifically condemned the government’s failure to address its outstanding debt to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which has accumulated to GH₵118 million
He criticized Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum for his lack of action in resolving this issue, stating that it has disrupted academic calendars, delayed tertiary admissions, and placed an undue burden on parents.
Gabson further expressed concern over the growing challenges faced by students in both public and private schools. He criticized the recent GH₵25 million payment to WAEC as insufficient and called for a more significant commitment from the government to address the outstanding debt.
The NCPTA General Secretary urged the Education Minister to stop issuing timelines and instead focus on delivering tangible results. He emphasized the need for the government to prioritize education funding and ensure the smooth functioning of the education system.
