President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has granted executive approval for the elevation of certain districts and municipalities, upgrading them to higher administrative statuses.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGRD) confirmed that the upgrades were made following a formal request in line with the legal provisions under Act 936.
The municipalities upgraded to metropolises include Ho, Sunyani, New Juaben, and Wa, while Offinso North, Brim North, and Karaga District Assemblies have been upgraded to municipalities.
