The Electoral Commission (EC) has increased media accreditations for covering constituency and regional collation centres to 4,500, up from the initially proposed minimum of 3,308.

At a press briefing on Friday, November 29, 2024, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa announced that the accreditation cards would be handed over to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) by Sunday evening.

The EC clarified its earlier directive, emphasizing it was aimed at ensuring a minimum presence of media at collation centres, not restricting access. This increase demonstrates the EC’s commitment to transparency and its collaboration with the media throughout the electoral process.

“The EC will not play any role in the allocation and distribution of the cards,” Mensa noted, leaving that responsibility to GJA and GIBA. The decision accommodates the need for broader media coverage despite space constraints at some centres.
