President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that approximately $400 million was allocated to the Agenda 111 hospital project under the previous administration, yet none of the planned facilities are operational.
This disclosure was made during his first State of the Nation Address in his second term, delivered before Parliament on Tuesday, 27th February.
Agenda 111, an ambitious initiative aimed at constructing 111 hospitals across the country to address the healthcare infrastructure gap, was launched with great expectations.
However, President Mahama’s comments highlight that despite significant financial investments, none of the hospitals have been completed or are in operation.
“It is worth disclosing that $400 million has already been disbursed for the Agenda 111 project,” President Mahama stated, adding that not a single facility under this large-scale initiative is currently serving the people of Ghana.
The president also suggested that if the funds had been managed more effectively, the resources could have been used to complete and operationalize at least 22 of the proposed hospitals.
