“You Can’t Keep ‘Incompetent’ Otto Addo Long-Term – Countryman Songo”

Patrick Osei Agyemang, known as Countryman Songo, the host of Fire for Fire sports show, has sharply criticized Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, branding him as an “incompetent” coach who has failed to deliver results for the national team.

Songo expressed his frustration over the Black Stars’ underperformance under Addo’s leadership. Despite playing six matches in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Ghana failed to secure a single victory. Songo argued that Addo’s lack of competence was to blame for the team’s inability to win.

“Can you really call a coach competent when he can’t even beat Sudan, Niger, or Angola? You played six games and didn’t win a single one. How can we expect a future with this coach?” Songo questioned.

Songo’s comments follow Ghana’s disappointing finish in Group F of the AFCON qualifiers, where the Black Stars ended up in last place with only three points. This marks a historic low for the four-time African champions, who failed to register a win during the qualification phase.

Songo emphasized that while continuity in coaching is important, it should not come at the cost of competence.

He firmly stated that Otto Addo’s tenure is not a viable option for the long-term success of the Black Stars.

“We want continuity, yes, but not with an incompetent coach,” Songo remarked. “Ghana needs a coach who can turn things around and restore the team’s competitive edge.”

He acknowledged that dismissing the Black Stars Management team alone wouldn’t solve the problem but pointed out that the root cause lies with the coach himself.

“Otto Addo is not a good coach. He’s proven to be incompetent. You couldn’t win against teams like Niger, Angola, or Sudan—how can we trust you with the future?” he asked.

Songo called for Otto Addo’s immediate dismissal, stating that Ghana needs a coach with the vision and expertise to bring back the glory days of the Black Stars.
