The World Health Organization (WHO) has strongly condemned Israel’s assault on the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, calling it a “death sentence” for thousands of Palestinians.
The attack, which took place on Friday, destroyed the last remaining major medical facility in the region, leaving the population with limited access to essential healthcare.
Reports indicate that key departments within the hospital were severely burned and destroyed during the Israeli military raid.
The WHO expressed outrage over the attack, emphasizing that assaults on medical facilities exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In its statement, the Israeli military claimed that the hospital had been used as a Hamas “terrorist stronghold,” although no evidence was provided to support this assertion. Hamas denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false.”
At the time of the assault, around 350 people, including 75 patients, were inside the hospital, along with 180 medical staff. The WHO reported that 60 healthcare workers and 25 critically ill patients, some of whom were on ventilators, were still trapped inside the facility after the attack.
The WHO’s condemnation highlights the urgent need for an end to such violence, stating, “This horror must end.” The destruction of Kamal Adwan Hospital has further complicated efforts to provide medical care to those in desperate need in northern Gaza.
