Samuel Nartey George, the MP for Ningo Prampram, has asserted that the Minority Caucus will take on the majority role in Parliament this coming Tuesday, October 22.
This announcement follows a Supreme Court decision that temporarily stayed the Speaker’s declaration of four vacant seats.
During a National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory walk in North Tongu, George took aim at the judiciary, claiming it has become politicized.
He expressed concern that recent court rulings, including the one on the vacant seats, reveal a troubling intertwining of political motives with judicial independence.
“Let the Chief Justice know that I consider myself the vice chairman of the select committee on communication because I stand with the majority. The judiciary needs to stop the political maneuvering,” he stated.
He emphasized that the Supreme Court should not act as an extension of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters. “The people of Ghana are tired of political decisions, and our caucus is committed to defending the integrity and independence of Parliament,” he continued.
“This commitment will extend beyond Tuesday, lasting until John Mahama is inaugurated on January 7, 2025. Mahama requires a reliable parliament to fulfill his promises,” he added, pointing out the need for strong parliamentary support.
George highlighted the importance of MPs like Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who he praised for his dedication and effectiveness, urging North Tongu voters to re-elect him.
“President Mahama needs a solid parliament to deliver on his commitments, and that starts with having reliable representatives like Ablakwa at his side,” he concluded.
