The Metropolitan Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, Most Rev. Justice Gabriel Yaw Anokye, has once again emphasized that any member of the Catholic Church involved in illegal mining (galamsey) will face disciplinary action.

He further stated that any donations from such individuals will be rejected, citing the harmful impact of deadly chemicals used in galamsey activities, which are devastating the land and water bodies.

The Archbishop made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the 4th Synod of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, which focused on the theme, “The pastoral situation of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi in the last two decades (2004-2024).”

Archbishop Yaw Anokye also reminded the congregation that God saw all He had created as good, with nothing being unclean.

He challenged, “Is this how we view our lands and forests?”
