(VIDEO) NDC MPs Occupy Majority Side in Parliament Again, Awaiting NPP MPs’ Arrival
As the political drama unfolds, the NDC asserts itself as the new majority, despite the Supreme Court's stay of execution
- With 136 seats, the NDC moves to the majority side, leaving the minority benches vacant
- Despite a Supreme Court stay, NDC MPs insist on following Speaker Bagbin's decision, not the court’s ruling
- No NPP MP present for the sitting
Around 40 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs) have followed through on their pledge to occupy the majority side of the House after a recall.
The MPs moved to the majority side, leaving the minority benches empty, in line with Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration that four seats were vacant.
With the NDC now holding 136 seats and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) reduced to 135, the opposition party quickly asserted its position as the new majority in Parliament.
Despite the Supreme Court issuing a stay on the ruling on October 18, NDC MPs maintain they will follow Speaker Bagbin’s instructions rather than the court’s decision.
While Speaker Bagbin clarified that he doesn’t dictate seating arrangements in the chamber, reports indicate that no NPP lawmakers were present when the sitting began at 10 a.m.
However, Majority Chief Whip and Tolon MP Habib Iddrisu reassured that the NPP would avoid conflict and focus on maintaining order in the chamber amidst the ongoing political standoff.
