Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called out the Clerk of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, for alleged bias, claiming she is a “typical NDC member.”
This follows a tense confrontation during the vetting of nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, where the Majority and Minority sides clashed over whether to proceed with the session or reschedule it.
Afenyo-Markin voiced his displeasure, suggesting that Jiagge-Gobah favored the National Democratic Congress (NDC), even going as far as accusing her of manipulating the process.
The disagreement escalated when the Minority called for a postponement, which the Majority strongly opposed, insisting the vetting continue.
The altercation led to disruptions, with Minority members causing chaos by damaging equipment in an effort to halt the proceedings.
Despite the unrest, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga stepped in, suspending the session and rescheduling the vetting for January 31.
