Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was sent off as the Netherlands salvaged a 1-1 draw against Hungary in the Nations League.
The hosts took the lead in the first half through Roland Sallai’s volley, but van Dijk’s dismissal turned the tide. The Dutch defender was shown a red card after receiving two yellow cards within three minutes.
His first was for dissent, and the second was for a foul on Kevin Csoboth.
Despite playing with 10 men, the Netherlands were able to equalize late in the game. Denzel Dumfries headed home a free-kick from Cody Gakpo to secure a point for his team.
The red card was van Dijk’s first for the Netherlands and came on his 77th appearance. It also ruled him out of the team’s upcoming match against Germany.
