TTH CEO’s Exit Not Tied to Viral Hospital Clash – Suhuyini Dispels Rumors Amid Reform Push

MP clarifies CEO’s removal stems from healthcare reforms, not viral dispute with Health Minister

Story Highlights
  • CEO’s dismissal unrelated to viral altercation, says MP Alhassan Suhuyini
  • Government aims to reform TTH
  • Minority in Parliament criticizes the dismissal as unlawful and emotionally driven

Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini, has firmly denied claims that the recent dismissal of Dr. Adam Atiku, CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), is linked to a recent viral altercation involving the Health Minister and a hospital staff member.

Amid mounting public speculation following a widely circulated video of a tense confrontation during the Health Minister’s unannounced visit to the hospital on April 22, Suhuyini clarified in an interview that the dismissal is unrelated to the incident or the individuals involved in the footage.

“The CEO had no involvement in the incident shown in the video. The young man in the video is a hospital employee, not Dr. Atiku. While he was cautioned for a comment deemed insensitive regarding a recent patient death, no disciplinary action was taken against him,” Suhuyini explained.

He went on to highlight that Dr. Atiku’s removal was part of a government-led initiative to revamp the Tamale Teaching Hospital in response to longstanding public demands for improved healthcare services in the Northern Region.

“This move is in line with a broader government agenda to overhaul the hospital’s operations and respond to concerns from the public about healthcare standards,” Suhuyini noted.

Dr. Atiku’s dismissal, which came after reports of negligence and poor facility conditions linked to a patient’s death, has sparked backlash from the Minority in Parliament, who labeled the decision as unlawful and emotionally motivated.
