In the first three days of the new Trump administration, a massive crackdown on illegal immigration has begun, with hundreds of undocumented migrants arrested and deported.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the arrests of 538 criminals, including a suspected terrorist and individuals convicted of sex crimes against minors.
Leavitt declared, “The largest massive deportation operation in history is well underway. Promises made, promises kept.”
Deportation flights have already been initiated, with US military cargo planes transporting hundreds of illegal immigrants out of the country. Trump’s administration is sending a clear message that illegal immigration will no longer be tolerated, with severe consequences for those attempting to enter the United States unlawfully.
A preview of the efforts to secure US borders included a list of crimes committed by those arrested, such as rape and sexual abuse of minors.
Furthering his agenda, the Republican-controlled House passed a bill requiring the detention of unauthorized immigrants convicted of theft and violent crimes, and Trump plans to sign the bill into law. Trump has also signed executive orders to seal the US-Mexico border and expedite deportations.
The administration’s hardline stance follows the signing of an executive order titled “Protecting the American People Against Invasion,” which cites the surge in illegal immigration over the past four years and the security risks posed by many of those unlawfully in the US.
