Supreme Court Crushes Bid to Derail Amenfi Central Election
Sekondi High Court’s ruling upheld as Supreme Court strikes down obstruction attempts
- Justice Yonni Kulendi dismissed the injunction request
- Sekondi High Court’s earlier ruling in favor of Joana Gyan Cudjoe upheld
- NDC and Electoral Commission free to organize the Amenfi Central parliamentary poll
The Supreme Court has dismissed a certiorari application seeking to halt the Amenfi Central Parliamentary election.
The plaintiffs, who had previously filed a case at the Sekondi High Court against the NDC and its parliamentary candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 4, to overturn the Sekondi High Court’s decision to lift the injunction.
Justice Yonni Kulendi, serving as the sole judge for the matter, heard the ex parte application on Thursday, December 5. He ruled against the plaintiffs, allowing the election to proceed as planned.
This follows a ruling on November 11, 2024, by the Sekondi High Court, presided over by His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh. The court vacated the initial injunction against Joana Gyan Cudjoe after the NDC’s legal team, led by Edudzie Tamakloe, successfully argued for its dismissal.
The decision clears the final legal hurdle for the Amenfi Central election to take place as scheduled.
