A Call for Unity and Sacrifice as the Nation Prepares for Critical Elections
- Political parties and stakeholders must prioritize the peace and well-being of Ghanaians
- The call for non-violence and stability is crucial
- Achieving lasting peace is a shared responsibility among politicians
Apostle Eric Nyamekye, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), has urged all political parties and stakeholders to place the peace and welfare of Ghanaians at the forefront as the nation gears up for the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at the launch of the National Peace Campaign, titled “Let Peace Prevail,” on November 3 at the State House, Apostle Nyamekye emphasized the importance of a violence-free election period.
He highlighted the need for sacrifice, compromise, and proactive measures to ensure stability for Ghanaians now and in the future.
While acknowledging that the election atmosphere has been largely peaceful, he noted that there have been troubling incidents of violence leading to loss of life.
He stressed that the call for peace should resonate with every Ghanaian, particularly those in positions of power and the institutions guiding the nation.
“I’m heartened to see representatives from the Electoral Commission, various political parties, and security agencies present, as I trust in their commitment to uphold our cherished peace. Prioritizing the safety and well-being of our citizens is vital in every election,” he stated.
Apostle Nyamekye concluded by calling for dedicated efforts from all stakeholders, emphasizing that achieving lasting peace will require thoughtful actions and collective commitment. The event was attended by key figures, including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s vice presidential candidate, and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, along with other influential politicians and stakeholders.
