- Four suspects, including Akosua Black Chinese and Yaa Asantewaa, have had charges withdrawn in the Nana Pooley murder case
- Briamah (Rasta) and Yaw Koshy remain on the run, with Briamah facing an additional murder charge
- Prosecution plans to resubmit the case to the Sunyani District Court as investigations continue
The prosecution team has dropped charges against four suspects initially linked to the stabbing to death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The incident, which occurred on February 2, 2025, at Nana Kromansah Park during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, shocked the nation and left the football community in turmoil.
The case, initially presented before the Fiapre Circuit Court, has taken a new direction as the prosecution, led by the Bono Regional Police Headquarters, prepares to resubmit it to the Sunyani District Court. So far, seven arrests have been made in connection to the tragic incident.
Among them are former MP and Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who has been granted bail and is set to appear in court on February 17, 2025.
The other accused, including Isaac Fosu, Yeboah Augustine, Elizabeth Akosua Ntiwa (alias Akosua Black Chinese), and Yaa Asantewaa, had faced severe charges of abetment to murder under Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act.
Meanwhile, two suspects, Briamah (Rasta) and Yaw Koshy, remain at large, with Briamah also facing a direct murder charge.
The suspects were initially denied bail on February 7, 2025, by Her Honour Akua Addae Adoma, who cited jurisdictional limitations over felony cases. However, on February 10, 2025, the presiding judge struck out the case following a formal request from Inspector Alexander Oppong, the lead prosecutor, to withdraw the charges.
This decision has sparked widespread speculation about the strength of the evidence against the accused and the circumstances leading to the withdrawal of charges.
As the investigation continues, all eyes remain on the upcoming legal proceedings, as the public seeks clarity and justice in this high-profile case.
