The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the tragic drowning of General Constable John Kwabena Dogbey, a member of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce.
The unfortunate incident occurred on April 2, 2025, at Assin Domeabra in the Central Region during an anti-illegal mining operation. According to preliminary reports, Constable Dogbey accidentally slipped and fell into the Offin River while attempting to dismantle a Chanfan machine used by illegal miners.
Despite an intensive search by divers, his body was recovered hours later and rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains have since been transferred to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Police Administration has extended heartfelt condolences to his family, pledging full support in this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the Taskforce successfully dismantled one Chanfan machine and seized two pumping machines, two excavator batteries, three excavator keys, and their corresponding chassis numbers during the operation.
