The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a tragic car accident that occurred in East Legon, Accra, on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
The police confirmed the identity of the driver involved and addressed early rumors in a statement released on October 14, 2024.
The accident resulted in the loss of two lives when Salifu Amoako, the driver in question, collided with another vehicle on Dzanie Ashie Street. Both cars caught fire, resulting in complete destruction.
One survivor has been discharged from the hospital, while the deceased victims have been sent to the morgue for preservation and autopsy. The suspect driver and other injured parties are still receiving medical care. CCTV footage from the scene captured the moment a speeding vehicle approached a crosswalk, leading to the tragic crash.
Assistant Division Officer (ADO) Alex King Nartey from the Ghana National Fire Service confirmed that the deceased were occupants of the Acura car.
Initial investigations suggest that excessive speed was a contributing factor to the accident. ADO Nartey also noted that the collision caused one of the vehicles to strike a wooden electrical pole, resulting in downed cables that ignited the fire.
Reports had previously identified the driver as the 16-year-old son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, founder of Alive Chapel International.
