In a shocking turn of events, Mathias Pogba, the older brother of former Manchester United star Paul Pogba, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of attempting to extort €13 million from his sibling.

Mathias, 34, was among six defendants accused of conspiring to force Paul, 31, into paying a massive sum for so-called ‘protection services.’

In March 2022, Paul Pogba was kidnapped at gunpoint by two hooded men who demanded the hefty sum, later paying €100,000 before facing further intimidation across various locations, including Clairefontaine and Juventus’ training ground.

Despite Mathias maintaining his innocence, claiming he was coerced, the court sentenced him to three years, with two of those suspended. Additionally, he was fined €20,000.

The remaining defendants, including Paul’s childhood acquaintances, received prison sentences ranging from 4 to 8 years for their roles in the extortion plot.

Mathias’ lawyer, Maitre Mbeko Tabula, expressed shock at the verdict, vowing to appeal. He insisted Mathias had been manipulated and never intended harm towards his brother. Meanwhile, Paul Pogba, who did not attend the trial, remains without a club after parting ways with Juventus.
