Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s Vice Presidential candidate, has sharply criticized the Minority for their behavior during parliamentary proceedings on October 22.
The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South labeled their actions as “unruly,” asserting that Parliament should be an arena for intellectual discourse rather than a boxing ring.
Speaking to students at Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College during his Greater Accra Regional tour, Napo emphasized the importance of decorum: “We did not engage in the chaotic confrontations the NDC Minority anticipated because we are disciplined and mature. Our focus is on maintaining peace and stability in this country.”
With nearly 16 years of experience as an MP, Napo urged his NDC counterparts to concentrate on their primary role of legislative enactment and advocating for their constituents’ welfare.
He condemned any form of violence in Parliament, deeming it unbecoming of honorable members.
The NDC MPs had previously taken control of the Majority side after four seats were declared vacant, despite a Supreme Court ruling that had put this decision on hold.
This led to a walkout by the Majority caucus, with Efuttu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin leading the charge until Speaker Alban Bagbin adjourned the House due to insufficient numbers for decision-making. The Majority has since requested a recall to address urgent government matters.
