- The decision to suspend the strike has come as a surprise
Organized Labor has suspended its planned nationwide strike scheduled for Thursday, October 10.
The decision was made following an emergency meeting on Wednesday, October 9, where union leaders assessed the government’s response to illegal mining.
In light of the government’s increased efforts, including the intensified Operation Halt initiative, Organized Labor decided to temporarily halt the strike to observe the government’s actions.
The strike had been planned to pressure the government to declare a state of emergency and take more decisive action against illegal mining.
While the strike garnered support from various unions, some, like the Ghana Medical Association and Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, opted to continue providing essential healthcare services.
The decision to suspend the strike has come as a surprise, given the previous strong stance of Organized Labor.
However, the organization has stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and remain committed to protecting workers’ rights and addressing the illegal mining crisis.
